News of the week - 'Double the challenge for players on course'

The Saturday festivities this weekend at Duntryleague are sponsored by JF and CG Tilston Electrical Pty Ltd with the overall nearest the pin sponsored by Westoil Petroleum and we thank both sponsors for their continued support.

The event this week is a 4BBB Versus Par. That’s right, a 4Ball and a Versus Par on the one day. This combination is somewhat similar to a plugged in toaster and a bathtub full of water, though somewhat less enjoyable and definitely more painful.

The winner of this event is generally harder to spot than a legally aged Chinese gymnast but we will have a go anyway. Stephen Judd, a renowned Wednesday specialist, has been plying his trade on Saturdays of late and coming off last week’s win, a solid partner should see him somewhere near the top at the end of the day.

Errol Babbage’s partner, whoever it may be, could count themselves very lucky this weekend. They probably won’t win anything but, my word, will they be entertained and they will see various parts of the course that only Errol gets to see. A better way to spend $13 and a Saturday afternoon I am yet to come across.

Keeping with the late afternoon starters we see world ranked left hander Darron Snare. With his prodigious long and straight hitting (his words, not mine) and vivid imagination, a podium finish may not be beyond him and his partner.

This weekend also sees the semi-finals of the Apples and Electrolux Trophies, the Presidents Corporate Day with a 12pm Shotgun start and a representative fixture with a posse of golfers heading to the Dubbo Golf Club for the Neville Hawke and Charles Stead Trophies. Best of luck and happy golfing to all participants this weekend. Article by Andy Campbell. Source: CWD online 21 August 2008

Banned Drivers for 2008 - Is you driver on the list?

Scores of your favourite driver models are to become illegal on January 1 after a change in the rules around driver design. According to the Royal and Ancient Golf Club, the body that oversees golf's rules, many new drivers are actually breaking size regulations and you won't be allowed to use them in any form of competition from January 1 2008. Illegal drivers are those with a spring-like face which catapults the golf ball off the driver face. The so called 'Hot Face' design is deemed unconforming by the R and A and although you can use them for social golf illegal drivers will be banned from competition. Click here to see the list.
